Barenreiter Symphony No.14 in A major (K.114) (Full Score)
The Symphony in A major K.114 (Biblioteka Jagiellonska, Kraków), exists in an autograph score headed Sinfonia in Mozart’s hand, with the author, place, and date of composition added by Leopold (“dal Sigr: Cavaliere Amad: Wolfg: Mozart le 30 Decemb: 1771 à Salisburgo”). In mid-December 1771 the Mozarts returned from Italy to Salzburg, where their employer, Archbishop Siegmund Christoph von Schrattenbach, had just passed away (16 December 1771). The autograph bears revisions from the very opening bars, where Mozart later altered the shape of the principal theme. The minuet, too, shows signs of revision: here the entire original movement is crossed out and a second one inserted on a loose leaf which, judging from the handwriting, originated only a short while later.
