Mozart Symphony in D major (K.81) (Full Score)

The Symphony in D major, K.81 has come down to us in a set of parts from the library of the collector Aloys Fuchs.  This material, located today in the archives of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, is dated “Rome 25 April 1770”, with the name of the composer given as “Cavaliere Wolfgango Amadeo Mozart”.  A manuscript copy scored from these parts is preserved, along with another symphony, K.84, at the Staatsbibliothek Preussischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin under the title “Two symphonies in D major for orchestra, composed by Leopold Mozart, chapel-master to the Archbishop of Salzburg”.  The above date is corroborated by a passage (in Italian) in one of Mozart’s letters from Rome, dated 25 April 1770 “When I have finished this letter I shall finish a symphony I started.  The aria is finished.  Another symphony is with the copyist (the said copyist is my father)”.   In agreement with the sources, the New Mozart Edition text departs from previous editions of this work in two passages of the finale, namely, in the viola and oboe parts.
