Mozart Symphony in D major (K.141a) (Full Score)
Overture to K.126 Il sogno di Scipione

The Symphony in D major K.141a  comprises the overture to the ceremonial cantata Il sogno di Scipione (K.126) and the isolated finale K.163.  Since K.126 originally bore the name "Sigismondo" (later changed to "Girolamo"), the piece was surely originally written for Archbishop Siegmund Christoph von Schrattenbach although it was only performed later for the installation of his successor.   Schrattenbach died on 16 December 1771, the day after the Mozarts returned from Italy.  This makes it likely that ll sogno di Scipione originated during Mozart's previous period in Salzburg, from April to August 1771.  To judge from the handwrithg, the final movement originated in the summer of 1773 or 1774; Mozart’s used this type of paper mainly between May and October 1772, and occasionally somewhat later (1774-5).  Thus, the "Symphony from the Overture" cannot be dated more precisely than 1772-4.
