Symphony in D major (K.111/120) (Full Score)
Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart Symphony in D major (K.111/120) (Full Score)
1st and 2nd movements (Overture and No.1 from K.111). Final movement K.120
The overture and first number of Ascanio in Alba K.111 and an isolated presto movement, K.120 (111a) can be combined to form a symphony in D major. Two facts suggest that this was evidently Mozart's intention. First a comment by Johann Anton André on the autograph score of the isolated presto (Staatsbibliothek Preussischer Kulturbesitz) translates as "This presto seems to have been used as a symphony in combination with the overture to the opera Ascanio in Alba and the following Andante. A". Second, both the opera and the isolated presto call for the use of trumpets, which are in both cases marked Trombe lunghe. This allows us to date the movement on the basis of the opera, which was completed on 23 September 1771 and premiered in Milan on 17 October.
