Kubicka Sonata for Violin & Piano
Sonata for violin and piano was written in 1987-1989 on the initiative of violinist Čeněk Pavlík, to whom the composition is also dedicated.
It is a three-movement cycle with a dynamic first movement in which fast dramatic sections alternate with calmer lyrical sections. The intermezzo brings a lightness of expression, with grotesque scherzo features, while the final movement flows at a very slow tempo and has a contemplative meditative character.
The sonata's compoer Miroslav Kubička (∗1951) first studied privately with Prof. Zdeněk Hůla, from there he went on to the Academy of Performing Arts in the class of Jiří Pauer and continued his postgraduate studies in music theory with Karel Risinger. Kubička currently works as a teacher at the Jan Deyl Conservatory in Prague.
