Schubert Sonata in A major Op.post.162 D 574 for Violin & Piano

The Sonata in A major (D 574) was published by Diabelli in 1851 as a Duo (en la) pour Piano et Violon... Œuvre 162.  Until the present day it has been known under this title.  In a copy from the Witteczek-Spaun collection, one of the most important and comprehensive sources of Schubert manuscript copies, it is headed Sonate für Piano Forte et Violino.  Nothing is known regarding the whereabouts of the autograph.  Comparison with the copy shows, however, that the first edition must be reasonably faithful to the original.
