Smetácek Scale Studies for Oboe
Václav Smetácek (1906-1986) was born in Brno, Czech Republic. He studied the violin and viola, and later oboe, conducting and composition at the Prague Conservatory. At the same time he studied musicology and philosophy at the Prague Charles University.
He was the founder and member of the Prague Wind Quintet (1928), with whom he performed, and for whom he composed and arranged compositions. As a conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra, he widened its repertoire with the music of 20th Century as well as with larger vocal and symphonic works.
