Lully Le Carnaval Mascarade (Full Score)
Jean-Baptiste Lully’s pastiche ballet-mascarade Le Carnaval was given at the Court, then at Palais-Royal, in October 1675. Based on texts written by Molière, Benserade and Quinault it consists of ten entrées, each taken from previous highly successful works: Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, Les Noces de Village, Monsieur de Pourceaugnac, Le Ballet de Flore, and La Pastorale Comique. Lully, not content to use the music of his past works again, transforms them here, sometimes in a way that is completely surprising.
- a selection of nine movements for strings (2 Flutes/Oboes and Bassoon ad lib) and basso continuo
