Heinrich Schütz (1858-1672) was a German composer and organist who studied in Venice with Giovanni Gabrieli.  Gabrieli's influence can be heard in many of Schütz's compositions.  Die sieben Worte Jesu Christi am Kreuz dates from 1645 and is scored for Soprano solo, Alto solo, Tenor solo (2), Bass solo, Mixed choir SATTB, Strings and Basso continuo.
